Winksite Update.

Dave and the crew, continues to make a great product even better.

Winksite Continues to Grow Daily. Upgrade Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30th.: "

Winksite is currently serving 20K publishers, a quarter million monthly users across 150 countries, and continues to grow daily. While our data center has performed well with next to zero downtime, recent increases of traffic have made some aspects of our service a bit sluggish to visitors at certain points of the day.

To head off any nasty, unplanned interruptions to service we have planned a necessary upgrade to our servers. Part of this upgrade involves moving our database to a larger, faster server that will accommodate future growth. Unfortunately, this requires us to take Winksite offline for several hours on Thursday, Nov 30th.

We apologize in advance for this interruption of service and promise we will do everything possible to keep the downtime to a minimum. We’re really excited about the performance increases these upgrades will bring (yep, we’re geeks) and look forward to providing all of you with continued mobile access to the content and connections you have grown accustomed to.

Snow continues

This began yesterday afternoon and it's still snowing this morning. It was rather ugly as I drove up to Vail last night for work. There were entirely to many people driving way to fast for the road conditions.

Snow continues in the metro area: "WEATHER WARNINGS

Don't try this at home without a "Very Fast" internet connection.

Brr....

It appears it's going to get ugly this week, weather wise.

No thank you.

There are people who have been in the stores shopping for an hour already this morning.

This is why...

..we have a DVR, and for the most part, don't watch T. V. in real time.

The damned Thanksgiving eve stories: "

This is one of those mornings when I want to throw the TV out the window. The lead story is that the roads and airports will be crowded this morning. Now that’s news! And it’s team coverage everywhere as correspondents stand in airports and on road reporting absolutely nothing there but providing mere atmospherics as they recite meaningless statistics from various agencies: ‘…more Americans than ever are on the move this Thanksgiving…’ They are telling us absolutely nothing we don’t already know. This is journalism?

And then comes Friday, when they will give us the big news: Stores will be crowded.

It’s the no-shit season on TV news.

Charging Too Little For Gas

This was big news here a week or so ago. Both King Soopers and Safeway that have Gas stations were affected by the court ruling. I can speak for my local area, and both King Soopers and Safeway were not the low price gas leaders in the local area. In fact they were a few cents higher than the "discount" no name brand gas stations, and a few cents lower than the recognized national brands. What wasn't addressed, is the fact that if either of the companies want to lose money on their gas prices, so what? I seem to remember reading that the gas station/convenience store are using their gas price as a tool to get you to stop for gas, and then in addition, buy something in the store, as you're already stopped. It reminds me of the days of the "loss leader" ads in the newspaper. The local grocery/market or other store would have a "loss leader" that would entice the public to come shop at the store. Then as long as you're in the store for that item, why not wander around to see what else the store has that you might "need." This is no more prevalent than on this coming Friday, better known as "Black Friday."

Spam

This is one of those stories that my journalism instructors would call a blinding flash of the obvioius. (BFO)

Airline Security

Here's the important part of this article:
"The problem is real, and the Department of Homeland Security and TSA should either fix the security or scrap the system. What we've got now is the worst security system of all: one that annoys everyone who is innocent while failing to catch the guilty."

The Boarding Pass Brouhaha.: "The Boarding Pass Brouhaha. A researcher lands in hot water for creating a website that allowed visitors to create fake boarding passes capable of fooling airport screeners. Why isn't the TSA in trouble for staging such easily circumvented security theater in the first place? Commentary by Bruce Schneier. [Wired News: Security Blanket]"
